Latest Korra News The Legend of Korra - The Art of the Animated Series, Book 1: Air previews Posted by Icy_Ashford on May 10th, 2013 @ 11:18 AM EST (698) Kotaku.com has a few preview pages of the TLOK Book One Artbook. The resolution is small and the words are a bit hard to make out but the concept art is still stunning nonetheless. Like the ATLA Artbook, I believe that we'll be able to see high resolution preview pages of it on Amazon.com very soon. In addition to the description of the TLOK Artbook as mentioned here, there are a few more details regarding the artbook: "THE LEGEND OF KORRA: THE ART OF THE ANIMATED SERIES BOOK ONE-AIR HC Michael Dante DiMartino (W) and Bryan Konietzko (W/Cover) On sale July 24 FC, 184 pages $34.99 HC, 9" x 12" This handsome hardcover contains hundreds of pieces of never-before-seen artwork created during the development of Season 1 of The Legend of Korra. With captions from Mike and Bryan throughout, this is an intimate look inside the creative process that brought the mystical world of bending and a new generation of heroes to life! • Captions by creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko! • Follow-up to smash hit animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender! • Never-before-seen artwork!" Embedded in this post is concept art of Korra. I'm sure this book will be an interesting read once it comes out on 24th July 2013! IGN saw a preview for The Legend of Korra, Book 2: Spirits Posted by Icy_Ashford on May 8th, 2013 @ 7:52 AM EST (697) A short scene from The Legend of Korra, Book 2: Spirits was shown to IGN and this was what they said about the preview. "The sequence we saw found Korra battling one of these spirits, initially just seen as dark tentacles, surrounded by a purple energy, coming out of the ground on a hillside. Korra asks, “Spirit, why are you so angry? What have we done to offend you?”, only for the tentacles to violently knock her aside, as they do to anyone else who attempts to help her, including Tenzin and an adult, male Water Tribe member I didn't recognize at a glance. Then, the full octopus-like creature rises out of the ground, and begins moving down the hill, utlimately crashing through a fence into a carnival being held, as Korra pursues it. On the offense, Korra shoots the creature with fireballs and begins to get the upper hand, but she is suddenly grabbed by one of its tentacles, and smashed down into the ground. And... we cut to black, for now. And sorry, my fellow Korra fans, Nickelodeon is not releasing this scene to the public for the time being. As the scene was introduced, they noted that there is still a lot of work to be completed on the animation side for Korra: Book 2 - though the scene in question still looked terrific, even if it wasn’t in its final form. Suffice to say, it hinted at some very exciting things to come." Sounds interesting, would it be another misunderstanding like what Aang faced with Hei Bai back in Avatar: The Last Airbender or would the problem now be entirely different? IGN also mentioned that even though an airdate for Book 2 isn't out yet, Nickelodeon has said "it would be back later this year". Fingers crossed that there would be some news at SDCC in July. Bryan recently announced the official cover art which is embedded in this post. It features Korra with Air Temple Island behind her. This is what Bryan said about the artbook: "I’m excited to share with you the final cover art (Korra drawn by Joaquim Dos Santos and painted by me, with a background painting by Fred Stewart) for the upcoming Korra Book One: Air art book, published by our good friends at Dark Horse Books. This was a real labor of love (heavy on the labor) for Mike, Joaquim, and me and all those who helped as we put this book together, and we are so proud of all the great artists’ work inside and can’t wait to share it with all of you. The plan is to do one of these art books per “book” of Korra (so four total), which is daunting yet fantastic. Direct market on sale date: July 24, 2013. Book market on sale date: August 6, 2013. 9” x 12” hardcover, 144 pages" I can't wait for July to come. This artbook and the The Legend of Korra, Book One: Air DVD/Blu-ray will be out in the same month.
